Spray WD-40 on it and let it stand for a few minutes. then use a rag to wipe it away. If it doesn't all come off, spray it again and let it soak then wipe it off. Keep doing this until you have removed all of teh sticky stuff.

WD-40 is also good for removing the glue from labels. Often we buy stuff that has labels on it that we would like to remove. Often this glue is gummy stuff that is almost impossible to get off. Just spray it with WD-40, let is set for a few minutes and wipe away the glue.

Denatured alcohol 90 % ( Rubbing alcohol will work ) it also typically does not damage the finish of the firearm.

orange mechanics handsoap. Sounds crazy I know, but it really does work. The citric acid in the soap removes pretty much any sticky substance. Just make sure you use the soap without pumice (grit) it could scratch up the finish on the gun

Goof off or just plain old wd40. be sure to re-oil everything afterwards. CLP works best for protection.
