Choosing a diaper bag is more than just choosing how it looks. Much more important is how functional it is. In terms of functionality there is much to know. You may like to consider if the bag is waterproof or not; all it will take is for some formula to spill into the bag and there may have some concerns for the hygiene of the bag. So, perhaps your first consideration is if the bag is waterproof.
Also, how many pockets the bag possesses will be a major factor in your choice because you will be carrying all kinds of things. Namely: sun hat, blanket, formula, purse, diaper creme, cell phone, keys, baby bottle, bottle warmer, big, clothes, toys, pacifier,changing, pad, and obviously diapers. It's likely that I've missed something so always make sure the bag has lots of pockets. Usually the bottle pocket is made of some kind of insulated material that will keep the bottle warm or cool.
Diaper bags are made from many different kinds of fabrics and one you may like to look out for is the anti-bacterial lining.
Most bags come with a three month guarantee, but if you're going to be using your bag a lot then some manufacturers offer a twelve month guarantee.
The enclosure of the bag will usually be a means of zipper, velcro, or magnetic clasps, with the zipper usually going across the top opening. The magnetic clasps are really neat, but usually ramps the price up. It's common for the zipper to go across the top opening, although some are a loose flap that simply folds over. Be cautious of the latter type, as certain positions may see the contents of the bag spill out.
There are lots of well-known brands out there, and maybe you want the brand name, but other less-known companies are making completely adequate bags that are stylish too. Whatever, you will be spoilt for choice. If you're concerned about the environment then you will even be able to find diaper bags that cater to the green market.
The large groups that bags belong are usually referred to as: messenger, stroller, and the backpack. These are rounded off in many different types of prints that include: Asian, stripes, paisley, rock n roll, polka dots, floral, geometrics, sport, and camouflage. There's probably more, but that should be enough to hold your interest.
