What do people usually wear pheasant and other gamebird hunting?

New hunter here. What does one usually wear gamebird hunting, or pheasant hunting in particular? I notice wal-mart has "upland game shirts"/"upland vests" for sale (tan color with safety orange patches). Is this the norm? Would I look like a complete idiot if I wore some deer hunting garb? (a camo jacket with an orange vest)? I'm not asking so much for vanity value but what's functional and what will work out on the field. thanks for the help!
